AESCULUS GLABRA

The Ohio Buckeye low-branched deciduous tree with a broad, oval crown. In the summer, leaves possess a dark green color and mature to a lovely yellow in the fall. Greenish-yellow flowers will bloom from April through May which is then followed by warty, spinney fruit called buckeyes. Commonly found in rocky, wooded areas. As an interesting fact, Native Americans called the fruit ‘;hetuck’; meaning eye-of-the-buck. This is in reference to the shiny, deep brown color of the fruit resembling the eyes of a buck deer.
